Map of Route

Here is the map of the route we are undertaking starting June 2010. (click on pic to enlarge) Our trip will cover more then 3000 miles, cross 4 of the Great Lakes, many rivers, smaller lakes and canals. We will also pass through 153 locks, most more then 100 years old.
We have been making plans for this trip for over 2 years. It started with a Christmas gift from our kids: 'Dozier's Waterway Guide - The Great Lakes'. This book outlines all the possible routes, and was an essential tool in our planning.
Two years prior to this we restored a 50 year old 26' steel boat that was originally used as a utility and delivery boat, serving the Great Lakes freighters out of Bay City, Michigan. You can follow that project at http://www.knschoonveld.blogspot.com/

Current Plans

We found a nice cozy marina, the Southern Grand Marina and have a slip reserved here. It is located about 12 miles up the Grand River from Lake Michigan, near Allendale, MI. The plan is to have boat put in the water early May and leave on our trip mid-June
